Driving Innovation in Revenue Protection: Beboc at the UKRPA Forum Meeting & Workshop

Last week, Beboc attended the UK Revenue Protection Association (UKRPA) Forum Meeting and Workshop, where industry leaders discussed the future of revenue protection, energy theft prevention, and innovation.

The event reinforced how collaboration and technology are shaping the industry, with AI, data analytics, and new security measures at the forefront of tackling energy theft.

As a company delivering data-driven solutions in regulated industries, Beboc was pleased to participate in these important discussions. Here are our key takeaways.

UKRPA’s Strategic Focus for 2025/26

The morning forum meeting outlined five strategic pillars for the coming years:

  • Strengthening the association’s value: Enhancing UKRPA’s role in revenue protection.
  • Membership growth: Expanding the network to increase industry impact.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Strengthening relationships with key partners.
  • Police collaboration: Improving efforts to combat energy-related crime.
  • Protecting communities: Raising awareness and training to prevent energy theft.

With energy theft tactics evolving, industry-wide collaboration and best practice development are crucial. Beboc’s expertise in smart technology and compliance aligns with these priorities, supporting proactive solutions that enhance efficiency and security.

Innovation in Revenue Protection: Key Workshop Insights

The afternoon “Innovation in Industry” workshop explored how technology transforms revenue protection.

1. Physical Deterrents to Tampering

A representative from Engage and a representative from Maun Industries introduced a new device designed to prevent meter tampering. While digital detection methods are advancing, physical security measures remain a key defence against energy theft.

2. Data Analytics in Theft Detection

Itron presented how smart meter data analytics can identify unusual usage patterns, allowing companies to assess risk scores and target investigations more effectively.

Building on existing methods, AI-driven insights are enhancing theft detection, making it faster and more accurate than ever before.

3. Theft Risks in Low-Carbon & Flexible Assets

A representative from Gemserv explored how energy theft is evolving in the renewable energy space.

As the industry transitions to net zero, theft risks extend beyond energy consumption to the physical theft of components—such as copper from EV charge points. Protecting new energy infrastructure will require innovative, adaptive security solutions.

4. AI & Risk Detection in the Financial Sector

Bigspark discussed how AI automation is transforming risk detection in banking — and how these learnings can be applied to energy theft detection. As AI advances, predictive risk modelling will become a powerful tool in identifying potential theft activity.

Breakout Sessions: Industry Collaboration & AI

During breakout discussions, participants explored three key areas:

  • Training – How can we equip industry professionals with the right skills?
  • Lead generation – How can technology improve theft detection?
  • Investigation – What new tools can enhance theft detection and response?

A common theme was AI and data collaboration. The industry recognises that data-sharing and automation will be critical in staying ahead of energy theft.

By leveraging AI-driven insights and cross-sector collaboration, revenue protection efforts can become more effective and proactive.

Final Thoughts: Innovation & Collaboration Are Key

The UKRPA Forum reinforced that the future of revenue protection depends on innovation and collaboration. As energy theft tactics become more sophisticated, the industry must respond with intelligent, data-driven solutions.

At Beboc, we are committed to supporting utility providers and revenue protection professionals with cutting-edge technology that enhances theft detection, strengthens compliance, and improves efficiency.

By leveraging AI, automation, and cross-sector partnerships, we can help create a more secure energy landscape.
